South Dakota School of Mines and Technology
As one of the benefits of being a smaller institution, The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has a relatively simple admissions process. Applications are reviewed and acceptance decisions are made within two to three weeks of receipt of the application and required materials.
Applications from U.S. residents should be completed by June 1 for fall applicants and October 1 for spring applicants. Applications from international students should be completed by April 1 for fall applicants and August 1 for spring applicants. Applications will be accepted after these dates, but cannot be guaranteed timely admittance.
All individuals who have graduated from institutions with accredited engineering and science curricula are encouraged to apply.
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required of all non-SDSM&T graduate applicants. SDSM&T graduates applying for any Master's program or for a PhD in either Geology or Atmospheric and Environmental Science are exempt.
For international students, a minimum score of 520 on the TOEFL is required (560 for admission without additional English tutoring).
